Commercial electrical contractor in Ridgewood, New Jersey
Ridgewood's central business district is compact, busy and full of older buildings that were wired for a very different set of tenants.
Public Service Electric and Gas, the largest utility in New Jersey.
Who supplies the power here
Ridgewood is served by PSE&G, Public Service Electric and Gas. That is worth confirming for anyone who assumes the northern part of the county is all Rockland Electric. It is not. Rockland Electric territory begins further north and west.
Being on PSE&G puts Ridgewood businesses inside PSE&G's commercial efficiency and electric vehicle charging programs, which a Mahwah or Montvale business a few miles north cannot use.
Downtown fit-outs and older buildings
The Ridgewood central business district runs along East Ridgewood Avenue and the surrounding blocks, and it is one of the more successful walkable downtowns in the county: restaurants, boutiques, professional offices and a lot of second floor space over storefronts.
Older downtown buildings create a predictable problem. A restaurant moving into a space that was previously a retail shop is almost always a service upgrade, because the incoming electrical service, meaning the equipment that brings power into the building, was sized for a very different load. The honest version of that conversation belongs in the estimate, not in a change order in week four.
Our work here is restaurant and retail fit-outs, service and panel upgrades, lighting retrofits, service and repair calls, generators and EV charging. The village's own Hudson Street parking garage already has public EV charging, so the demand is not hypothetical.
Ridgewood inspections
Ridgewood publishes a straightforward inspection process. Inspections are requested by calling 201-670-5500 extension 5506 or through the state SDL permitting portal, and the village requires at least twenty four hours advance notice. The village specifically states that requests are not accepted by voicemail, so a message left after hours does not count as a request.
Electrical inspections are performed daily from 9:00 in the morning to 3:00 in the afternoon. Daily availability is genuinely useful on a fast retail fit-out, but only if someone actually calls a day ahead and speaks to a person.

What owners in Ridgewood ask us
Is Ridgewood on PSE&G or Rockland Electric?
PSE&G. Rockland Electric territory in Bergen County is further north and west, in towns like Mahwah and Montvale.
When are electrical inspections done in Ridgewood?
Daily from 9:00 to 3:00, per the village, with at least twenty four hours advance notice. The village does not accept inspection requests by voicemail.
Do you do restaurant work downtown?
Yes. Restaurant and retail fit-outs in older downtown buildings are a regular part of what we do, including the service upgrades those conversions usually require.
Do you install EV charging for a business?
Yes. Commercial and workplace charging is part of our Power Systems work, and it starts with checking what the building's existing service can carry.
