Park Ridge does not buy its electric distribution service from PSE&G or Rockland Electric. The borough owns and operates its own electric utility, and it is one of only nine municipal electric utilities in the entire state of New Jersey.
What that actually means for a building owner
Three things.
Your utility contact is the borough, not a call center. Anything involving the incoming electric service, meaning where the utility's wire ends and your building's electrical system begins, goes through borough personnel. In practice this is often faster and more direct than a large investor-owned utility, but it is a different process and a contractor who has never worked here will not know it.
Utility incentive programs work differently. Programs run by PSE&G and by Rockland Electric are for those utilities' own customers. A Park Ridge property is not one. Statewide New Jersey programs and federal programs may still apply, but any contractor who quotes you a PSE&G rebate on a Park Ridge building has not checked. We check before it goes in a proposal.
Rate structure and metering are set locally. That is relevant to anything sized around the electric bill, including lighting retrofits and EV charging, so the numbers have to come from the actual bill rather than from a regional average.
